Insecurity Forces Nearly 400 Sudanese to Flee South Kordofan
The UN agency disclosed that field operatives documented the exodus of 125 individuals from Kadugli and 270 from Dilling between Jan. 11 and 12, citing worsening safety threats that made remaining untenable.
In its official statement, IOM confirmed the displaced populations relocated to territory within White Nile state, seeking refuge from intensifying hostilities.
Both Kadugli and Dilling have endured sustained encirclement by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) alongside their ally, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement–North, since the conflict's initial months over two years ago. The cities have weathered relentless artillery bombardments and unmanned aerial vehicle strikes throughout the siege.
Last week, IOM revealed displacement figures across the three Kordofan states had climbed to 64,890 between Oct. 25 and Dec. 30, 2025—underscoring the humanitarian crisis's expanding scope.
Among Sudan's 18 states, the RSF maintains control over all five Darfur region states in the western territories, with exceptions only in northern sections of North Darfur held by government forces. The Sudanese army retains authority across most of the remaining 13 states spanning southern, northern, eastern and central regions, including capital city Khartoum.
The armed confrontation between Sudanese military forces and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has claimed thousands of lives while forcibly displacing millions of residents nationwide.
