Trump Government to Propose Sudan Peace Plan to Board of Peace

(MENAFN) The Trump administration intends to bring a proposed peace plan for Sudan before President Trump’s “Board of Peace,” in addition to the UN Security Council, provided Sudan’s conflicting parties approve the proposal, according to reports.

“It's likely that we can get this accepted by the two parties, take it to the Security Council…We can also take it to the Board of Peace very shortly after that,” said US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos during an event on the Sudan Humanitarian Fund in Washington, DC.

He added: “The Board of Peace is very much interested in this process. They're very much interested in what you're doing and looking forward to providing considerable support.”

When asked about the reasoning for involving the board, Boulos explained:
“The Board of Peace is a smaller group that is quite enthusiastic. Of course, their current focus is on Gaza. But why not? I know that the board is interested in looking at Sudan and helping with Sudan.”

Boulos emphasized that the two efforts are “absolutely complementary,” noting that initiatives adopted by the Board of Peace could add political momentum alongside UN mechanisms.
“It doesn't in any way affect the UN or the UN Security Council,” he said.

He confirmed that the “comprehensive peace plan” has received agreement from the Quad—a diplomatic group including the US, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, aimed at ending Sudan’s civil war.

Boulos also highlighted that the UN has set up a mechanism for withdrawing forces from key cities in Sudan to allow civilians to return safely, and that the parties have agreed in principle to begin these withdrawals.
